As a leading UK telecommunications provider SCG (formerly Southern Communications) specialise in connectivity and cloud solutions for businesses with a focus on understanding individual needs and fostering efficient, secure, and cost effective connections to support growth and success.
The Rebranding Challenge
SCG’s brand identity had become fragmented across their diverse operations and had failed to keep up with the expansion of the business.. The “Southern Communications” name, while reflecting their heritage, was limiting their perceived market reach and failing to communicate the full scope of their capabilities.
This wasn’t just a perception problem – it was costing them real business. Sales conversations started with geography lessons instead of solutions discussions. Prospects outside the South dismissed them before they could demonstrate their actual capabilities and people didn’t know of their full range of services.
The company needed a cohesive identity that would accurately reflect their position as a national solutions provider while unifying their various service offerings that the company had grown to offer, under one professional banner.
Repositioning Solution
Rather than a cosmetic refresh, this needed strategic repositioning. SCG had the expertise and track record – they just needed a brand that reflected reality instead of history.
The rebrand had three pillars:
- Remove geographic limitations. Transitioned from “Southern Communications” to “SCG (Southern Communications Group)” – instantly shifting perception from regional company to group of specialists.
- Reflect technical sophistication. New brand identity built around the cloud symbol – representing both their core technology and their role in elevating client businesses.
- Ensure complete consistency. Launched across every touchpoint simultaneously – websites, marketing materials, signage, vehicles. No mixed messages.

The Execution
Account managing this project, I was able to support delivery of a rollout that was comprehensive and coordinated. New group websites showcased national capabilities. Updated marketing materials positioned SCG as equals to larger competitors. Every customer touchpoint reinforced the professional, capable positioning.
